SaaS definition
The SaaS (Software as a Service) is positioned in opposition to the former marketing scheme of softwares. Where previously you purchased the license of a software that allowed you to acquire it for life, SaaS offers you a “rental” of this software per month or year.
Where you absolutely had to install the software on each machine whether you want to see equipped, it is now possible to do without this tedious installation to use the software on any computer connected to the Internet and sometimes even from a smartphone or tablet. The SaaS solution is thus exempt from both the operating system and the type of Internet browser provided that the computer has an Internet connection, the physical allocation of a workstation to a user is therefore no longer necessary.

The Cost
No need to invest in new servers, expand your disk space or acquire new workstations: with the SaaS model, you reuse the existing. You also control your expenses by spreading the costs over the entire period of use of the SaaS software. A McKinsey study thus estimated that the total cost of ownership of software deployed in SaaS mode was lower by 40% to that of software installed on site. To find out more about this cost and how “free” some solutions are, you can consult this article: Free digital signage: what does it cost?
Efficiency and Simplicity
Get up and running quickly thanks to software available via a simple Internet connection, software deployed in SaaS mode is available at any time and anywhere, your employees can work from any site equipped with the Internet, without requiring any separate software license.
The problems of deployment, programming and customization are no longer yours, the company that provides you with the SaaS software takes care of these aspects.
Scalability
As your business grows, you add new users, so you don't have to invest in new licenses and additional server capacity. All you need to do is adjust the SaaS subscription to your needs.
On the other hand, your cloud computing service provider takes care of software updates, which can be used instantly, without requiring reinstallation or reconfiguration.
To summarize the Saas model
The Tech Republic survey reveals that 91% of businesses using cloud computing say that their solutions meet or exceed their expectations. SaaS solutions are undeniably more relevant than software, in many ways;
- Instantly identifiable costs
- Solutions that are instantly accessible online
- No infrastructure constraints: No installation is required
- Additional services (such as updates) compared to the simple provision of the application solution.
- The SaaS model is also a more environmentally friendly IT solution: sharing of storage and server infrastructures, rationalization of task sharing, savings on the purchase of computer equipment, shared system that consumes less energy.
