Social media: what are the uses for businesses?

30/7/2019

Arriving at the same time as millennials and accentuated by Generation Z, social media have become the preferred distribution channels for businesses. Initially intended for external use, businesses are increasingly adopting them for internal communication. So what are the possible uses for a business?

A history of communication

While smartphones were created to make calls, social media are used... to communicate! Indeed, each company can express itself in different ways. It can do this both externally and internally.

Externally, you can for example communicate about your participations during events or even, share the posts you write.

Conversely, you can also communicate internally through platforms such as WorkPlace or Slack. These will allow you to publish your content to all of your teams.

Through these networks and communication methods, you will be sure that your targets will receive the right message at the right time. Add to this that you can also get feedback on your actions because social media are conducive to exchanges, a perfect transition for our second point.

Creating a community

As we have just seen, communicating on social media will create interaction with your audience. By interacting with them and posting regularly, you will create a community for yourself. It is important to have a community on social networks because they will be the ones who will push your business to success.

If they like your business, they will in a way become “ambassadors” about your brand and will talk about you without you having to do anything. So take the time to respond to their comments and encourage exchange and sharing with them.

Becoming a recognized player

Once you master the art of communicating and interacting on social media, you can then become a recognized player. There is nothing better than social networks to test new things to create a buzz.

Take the Konbini media and their famous Fast and Curious as an example. By publishing this format in public for the first time, they were far from imagining that it would be globally recognized. However, thanks to its community, Konbini has become an influential media on social networks.

Inspirations to create

Looking at social media from a macro perspective is like looking at a school. There is information that is exchanged, people who create new projects, etc. All this information feeds companies in the creation of new projects, both internally and externally.

Indeed, as seen previously, media such as Konbini offer video formats featuring celebrities. Companies have thus taken up this format and have declined it for employees.

It is therefore not uncommon to see corporate Fast and Curious people appear on social media, as did our client Aptiskills:

But video formats are not the only sources of inspiration. Anything broadcast on networks is likely to be reproduced by anyone. Whether it's events, business ideas or even calls for needs. In fact, it is this last point that we will discuss in the next part.

Acquire customers

Of course, social media are a gold mine for businesses. Indeed, the large number of businesses and people present on these channels allows prospecting and acquisition of customers. Whether through paid advertising or by redirecting to an external page, Hunt Prospects involve a good strategy upstream. However, an excellent knowledge of digital marketing is necessary in order to be sure of having a good return on investment (because yes, advertising on networks is expensive).

Sharing your employer brand

Let's end this article with a point that you should definitely not overlook, it's of course your employer brand. Because social media are above all a means of expression for businesses, you might as well take advantage of them to sending strong messages. Whether it's for your recruitments, your Onboarding or if you support causes that are dear to you, social media highlight all these great projects.

And yes, storytelling is now at its peak on the networks. So highlight your business, and you will see that all the major points we mentioned above will come naturally.
